Milan Design Week 2025 – Thought for Humans. The K2 Design Lab team outlines the perspective on the current directions of design and architecture, after participating in the most influential event of the industry

K2 Design Lab, architecture and interior design part of Goldbach Group, made a tradition of being present every year at Milan Design Week, the most important international event in the industry. It was no exception in 2025, and at the beginning of April, the K2 Design Lab team made contact with the design news, exploring this Italian city, which, every year, for a week, is transformed the epicenter of creativity, art and innovation.

The 63rd edition of Salone del Mobile redefined the global design landscape on April 8-13, 2025, in Fiera Milano, Rho. This year Salone adopts a human -centered vision through the campaign Thought for Humans. The initiative explores the continuous relationship between design, body and sustainability. With over 2,000 exhibitors from 37 countries, this year's edition was not limited to product innovation, but proposed a complex vision of how universes adapted to the future can be built. The participants took part in exhibitions, workshops, debates and a wide series of creative events.

Directions Creative Explored to Milan Design Week 2025

Milan design week remains a fundamental landmark for contemporary explorations in architecture and interior design. The K2 Design Lab team followed the conceptual directions and the proposed material expressions, with the intention of integrating them into future projects.

A central element of this year's edition were lighting solutions, which go beyond the functional role – becoming a language, responsibility and a vision for the future. The debut of Euroluce International Lighting Forum marks a change of perspective in how the lighting is approached, along with sustainability and their influence on the quality of life.

The aesthetics specific to the second half of the twentieth century, reimaginated and updated by intense pastels, silver metal surfaces, lighting with sculptural value, travertine used as a natural element, spaces treated in hot yellow, red marble and a range carefully composed by the shades of brown, and the interior designers of the K2 Design Lab team.

The art installations have outlined the sensory and visual core of the event, exploring the dialogue between man and space.

Among the most expressive has counted Lucida (I -IV)the creation of Lachlan Turzan, a kinetic composition of light flows, exposed in the Google installation Making the Invisible Visible.

All the light was protagonist and in Library of Lightthe installation signed by ES Devlin, a rotary structure of books and mirrors located in the courtyard of Pinacotecii di Brera.

In the same register of reinterpretation of the space and the connection with the past, Casa Cork brought to the fore the organic materials and traditional techniques.

In parallel, projects like Villa Héritage by Pierre-Yves Rochon or The Forest of Space Signed by Sou Fujimoto completed the exhibition landscape, demonstrating that contemporary design redefines its borders through introspection, poetry and sustainability.

Elena Oancea: “We connected with the essence of contemporary architecture”

“The K2 Design Lab team has returned from Milan Design Week 2025 with a lot of enthusiasm and new ideas that will help us strengthen the strategic directions of the company, maintaining a balance between creativity, performance and long -term impact. This event is for us a true source of inspiration and a unique opportunity to explore directions that will influence our aesthetics and the function of our projects,” said Elena Oancea, Co-Ceo Goldbach Group.

Responsible design, between innovation and sustainability

“What I noticed this year at Milan Design Week is an increasing emphasis on the evolution of the concept of sustainability. If the use of recycled materials has already become a regular practice for many brands, the emphasis has now moved to simplifying the products. Many of the presented parts had a small number of components, thought not only aesthetically, but having concrete benefits during the life cycle, to facilitate repairs, disassembly and recycling – an approach that reflects a real commitment to the environmental impact, said, in turn, Gabriela Scântei, an architect at the K2 Design Lab.

About Milan Design Week

Salone del Mobile is a Furniture and Design Fair in Milan, Italy, which takes place annually, for a week, in April. It all started in 1961, with a fair organized by the furniture manufacturers from the Fededelegno-Arredo Commercial Association, who wanted to draw attention to the Italian furniture.

Fuorisalone (“outside the salon”), that is, the expansion of the fair in several areas of Milan, appeared in the early 1980s, from the desire to combine the design of furniture with fashion and technology trends. Today, visitors can find Milan Design Week in addition to furniture, light installations, decorative objects, innovative accessories and other interior design elements, according to Art and Object and Design Week Guide.
