According to sources, “there are arguments for both going and refusing to participate” at the meeting on February 19, reports G4Media.

“Even if initially the president had considered going to the meeting in Washington, now the balance is leaning towards not going”because “it is not yet clear what the role of participation would be”the sources said, adding that: “If we're just going to watch those who are members debate, then no.”

Regarding the visit of President Nicușor Dan to the United States, “this also depends on the answer we will give for the participation in the Peace Council”said the quoted sources.

The United States sent out invitations to the event on Friday and described the meeting as “the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council”.

The event is scheduled to take place at the American Institute for Peace, which was renamed by President Donald Trump after himself. The meeting would be aimed, in part, at raising funds.

Twenty-four countries signed the agreement on the Peace Council.

While Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a Trump ally, has already announced that he will travel to Washington to attend the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council, President Nicusor Dan confirmed that he had received an invitation to attend the first meeting of the Council, but on Sunday he clarified that the decision on his participation would be made following discussions with American partners about the format of the meeting regarding states that are not members of the Council, but wish to join. under the conditions of the revision of the Charter of this organization.
