CSM Bucharest announced that Djurdjina Jaukovic was suspended for one round of the EHF, after receiving a red card in the match against Brest in the previous round of the Champions League. The Romanian champion issued a statement in which she explained that the Montenegrin handball player had no intention of hitting her opponent.

CSM Bucharest prevailed on Sunday, February 8, with 40-34 in front of Brest Bretagne (France) and achieved its 6th consecutive victory in the Champions League. The duel was, however, marked by an incident, which resulted in the disqualification of Djurdjina Jaukovic, after a hard blow administered by the athlete to an opponent.

After analyzing the case, The EHF decided to suspend Jaukovic for one stageso the Montenegrin handball player will not be able to play on Saturday, February 14, in the away game from Ferencvaros.

CSM Bucharest issued a statement in which it announced the suspension of Jaukovic and conveyed that the 28-year-old athlete had no intention of hitting her opponent.

CSM Bucharest informs that our player, Djurdjina Jauković, will be absent from the next EHF Champions League Women match, after the EHF Court of Handball decided to suspend her for one (1) match, following the red card received in the match played on February 8, 2026 against the Brest Bretagne Handball team.

In the 43:41 minute of the match, Djurdjina Jauković was disqualified directly, and later a disciplinary procedure was opened by the EHF Court of Handball. Following the analysis of the case, the European forum decided to suspend the player for one match, which means that she will not have the right to play in the game scheduled for February 14, 2026 against FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria

CSM Bucharest: “Immediately after the match, she personally apologized to the opposing athlete”

Both the athlete and the club submitted official points of view to the Commission that analyzed the case, explaining the circumstances of the phase and emphasizing the lack of intent. In her statement, Djurdjina Jauković expressed her regret for the situation created and showed that the incident occurred in a context of high-speed play, without visual control of the opponent's position. Also, immediately after the match, she personally apologized to the opposing athlete, in a gesture of fair play.

We underline the fact that both the referees of the party and the members of the Commission noted the unintentional nature of the act. However, judging that the action was dangerous and reckless, the members of the EHF Court of Handball decided to impose a one-match suspension.

CSM Bucharest respects the regulatory framework and the decisions of the European forums, even in difficult situations for the team. At the same time, we consider it important to highlight that the lack of intention was confirmed in the disciplinary procedure, and the incident represents an isolated case in our player's professional career.
