Emil Drăghici, the mayor of the Vulcana-Băi commune in Dâmboviţa, asked the PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, on Tuesday, in the Parliament, why he criticizes the measures adopted by the Government, given that his party is part of the coalition and voted for these measures.

Grindeanu and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan participated, on Tuesday, in the debate on the theme “Administrative reform, the policy of reducing public expenses and their impact on Romanian municipalities”, organized by the Association of Romanian Municipalities.

At the end of the speech in which he veiledly attacked Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, with whom he was at the same table, Emil Drăghici, who is also the president of the Association of Municipalities in Romania, addressed him.

“Everything you said is, of course, to the liking of everyone in the room. But if you will be asked by my fellow mayors, “Well, you don't like the measures, but you won't vote together”?”, asked Drăghici.

In reply, Sorin Grindeanu replied:

“The measures we talked about will come. Do we have an approved budget now, and I don't know? Do we have the administration package approved, and I don't know, Mr. President? There are certain things related to local taxes and fees, and I told you, yes. There are things that can be corrected. And yes, we support, that's what we started with. There are proposals from colleagues at the UDMR, some of which we resonate with. And the others will have to be seen in the 2026 budget”, Grindeanu declared.

Grindeanu: Recently, there was a deliberate attempt to demonize the mayor

The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu, was the first to speak at the Parliament debate with the mayors. In his speech, he claimed that, in the last period, an attempt was made, almost by all means, to “devilize” the Romanian mayor,

“I resonate with most of the proposals coming from the UDMR, which we have all seen, which is why I would like today, here, if we can, to do an exercise in sincerity, to put aside the triumphalist speeches and talk openly about the elephants in the room. First of all, you know very well that recently there has been an attempt, knowingly and by almost all means, to demonize the mayor of Romania. In short: if you are not from a locality where you have billions from the budget, then almost every time you are presented as incapable, as an employer of files or mistresses or you are one of those who want to take funds from the state budget in order to steal them. However, this demonization in corpore is just a convenient lie that expresses, if you like, a moral and intellectual laziness of those who are unable to overcome cheap populism”, said Sorin Grindeanu.
