There will be a new package of sanctions against Russia. The list includes a rapper, archaeologists, a boxer and a fencer


Why are we writing about this?

As part of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, the EC proposes introducing a complete ban on the transport of Russian crude oil by sea, as well as hitting banks and cryptocurrencies that Russia uses to bypass sanctions. Part of the package is also to include a “blacklist” of another 30 people and 64 companies to be subject to sanctions.

Who is to be included in the new sanctions package?

As Polish Radio reported on Saturday, the list, in addition to companies and people associated with the arms sector, will also include people responsible for the massacre in Bucha, those responsible for the kidnapping of Ukrainian children, those responsible for stealing Ukrainian works of art and the destruction of Ukrainian cultural heritage, as well as Russian propagandists. Such institutions and persons are to be subject to asset blocking, trade and cooperation bans, and entry bans to the EU.

What next with the 20th sanctions package?

For the sanctions proposed by the EC to come into force, the consent of all member states will be required. The head of the European Commission would like the package to be adopted by February 24, i.e. before the 4th anniversary of the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. In her opinion, such adoption of sanctions would constitute an important signal that the EU's commitment to a free Ukraine is unwavering.
