Currently, the construction of the fence with Russia is proceeding according to plan, the border guard noted.
Construction is almost half complete and more than 100 km of fence is ready for use. In total, almost 160 km of fencing were erected.
The construction of a fence approximately 200 km long in Finland is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Context
Finland has 1,343 km of common border with the aggressor country of the Russian Federation.
Finland decided to build a “more effective fence” with Russia in the spring of 2022, after a full-scale attack by the Russian Federation on Ukraine. The project cost was €362 million.
Currently, the land border between Finland and the Russian Federation is closed.
In January 2026, Finland, due to the deteriorating security situation in the region, withdrew from the convention banning anti-personnel mines.
