Clivia often refuses to bloom after moving or changing seasons. The reason lies in the depleted substrate and lack of phosphorus and potassium. Store complexes are not always suitable. Homemade compositions restore the plant’s strength and start the formation of flower stalks without extra costs.
Basic rules for care and nutrition:
- From March to August they are fed every ten days.
- From September to February, watering is reduced to a minimum and fertilizing is stopped.
- Young specimens up to three years old receive food once every two weeks after flowering.
- Fertilizers are applied only to moist soil so as not to burn the roots.
The best homemade compositions to stimulate flowering:
Wood ash
Contains potassium and calcium, strengthens flower stalks and deepens the color of the petals. A tablespoon of sifted ash is dissolved in a liter of water, left for a day, filtered and watered at the root.
Banana peel infusion
Rich in phosphorus and magnesium, accelerates the formation of buds. The peels of three bananas are poured with a liter of boiling water, kept for two days, diluted with water one to one and used for irrigation.
Sugar solution
Gives quick energy to cells, stimulates the growth of new shoots. Dissolve a teaspoon of sugar in half a liter of warm water, water the plant once a month, alternating with plain water.
Important: excess nutrition upsets the soil balance. If a white coating or limp leaves appear, stop watering for ten days and replace the top layer of soil.
Compliance with these rules returns the plant to its decorative appearance. Clivia produces dense inflorescences and fills the room with a summer mood for the entire warm season.
