At least two months will be needed to rebuild the thermal power plant damaged in the Russian attacks, which provided heating in two districts of Kiev, said the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko, on Thursday.

“Specialists have examined the nature of the damage, including the equipment of the critical infrastructure facility, which was one of the enemy's targets during the attack on the capital on February 3. This is the Darnicka Heat and Power Plant. (…) The specialists' conclusions are that the facility has suffered critical damage and at least two months are needed to rebuild its systems and equipment,” Klitschko wrote on Telegram.

The mayor emphasized that this heat and power plant served, among others, some houses in the Darnica and Dnieprovskaya districts – over 1,100 multi-story blocks.

Klitschko said that the city had organized additional heating points in schools in housing estates where houses were deprived of heat, connected to mobile boiler rooms. You can stay there both during the day and at night. There are currently five more of them in the Darnica district, and four more in the Dnieprowska district.

Russian troops have carried out 217 attacks on our energy infrastructure since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said on Wednesday. Temperatures in Kiev and other cities in Ukraine have been around -20 degrees Celsius over the past few days. (PAP)
