The World Economic Forum is a Swiss non-profit foundation known for organizing an annual conference in Davos, attended by the most influential people in the world, including: central bank governors and world leaders. This year, the event featured, among others: Donald Trump.
The authorities of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Thursday initiated an investigation into Boerge Brende, who allegedly maintained business contacts with the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Brende, who has been president of the WEF since 2017, admitted that he attended three dinners with him in 2018-19. This was well after Epstein's first sexual offense convictions.

Dinners with Epstein
According to Brende, his first meeting with Epstein took place in 2018 in New York. The invitation allegedly came from former Norwegian Deputy Prime Minister and negotiator of the 1994 Oslo Accords, Terje Roed-Larsen. Epstein was introduced to him as an American investor whose past and criminal activities Brende did not know about at the time.
Brende's version was questioned by the Norwegian portal E24. The editors believe that the contacts of the former head of Norwegian diplomacy were not limited to only three meetings. Referring to documents disclosed by US authorities, journalists recalled over 120 messages exchanged between Brend and Epstein in 2018-19.

The WEF said in a statement that the decision to initiate an investigation is intended to confirm the organization's “commitment to transparency and protecting its integrity.” Until the proceedings are concluded, Brende will remain as President and CEO of the Davos Forum.
Boerge Brende was Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2013–17. Previously, he served as Minister of the Environment and Minister of Trade.
