NABU initiated searches of Bulgarian arms dealers, –
mass media.
At the request of the NABU in Bulgaria, large-scale searches were conducted in the offices and houses of the Sage Consultants AD company, which is engaged in the supply of weapons. The operation was carried out by the National Investigative Service, the police and special units for the fight against organized crime and counter-terrorism.
The firm is suspected of inflating the prices of weapons for Ukraine and trading with Russia to circumvent sanctions. The owners are Hristo Hristov, who owns an arms factory in Plovdiv with 500 employees, and Gencho Hristov, an investor in the real estate market in Sofia. Hristo became famous in Bulgaria after buying a villa in Beverly Hills (USA) for $34.6 million in 2019.
No arrests were made, but the searches became part of an international investigation in the field of defense procurement, which is being conducted in cooperation between Ukrainian and Bulgarian law enforcement officers.
