Russia targets rail infrastructure

In a separate attack, Russia attacked railway infrastructure in Konotop, Sumi region, for the second consecutive day with drones.

On Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba wrote on Telegram that Russian forces were deliberately targeting civilian railway facilities.

“For the second day in a row, the enemy has deliberately attacked civilian railway infrastructure in the Sumi region. A series of drone attacks on the Konotop railway station and the locomotive depot have taken place since Saturday evening,” Kuleba said.

He stated that the railway lines, the station area, the repair shop and the administrative building of the depot were damaged and fires broke out. Firefighters responded to the attack, while workers remained in shelters.

“These are not random attacks. This is systemic terror against civilian logistics – against the people who maintain traffic, communications and connections. Despite the damage and delays, rail workers continue to work,” the official added.

According to the Air Force, since 18:00 on February 1, Russia attacked Ukraine with an Iskander-M ballistic missile and 171 drones including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas and other types of drones. Russia has launched around 100 Shahed drones.

The air attack was repelled by Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units and unmanned systems, as well as mobile groups of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

“By 9:00 am, the air defense had shot down or suppressed 157 enemy Shahed, Gerbera and other types of drones in the north, south and east of the country,” the report shows.
