Brancusi and the violin built from an orange crate

In 2026, officially declared the year of Constantin Brâncuși, marking 150 years since the artist's birth, the Romanian Academy organizes several events that are dedicated to the sculptor, who was declared posthumously a member of the forum in 1990.

The first event, a symposium entitled “When art embraces medicine – The Ecorșeul and the works of Constantin Brâncusi's youth”, took place on January 28.

Doina Lemny, art historian and curator, specialist in the work of Constantin Brâncusi, spoke about the artist's journey, about the violin he built from an orange box, about the music that accompanied him permanently – either in the workshop, through the auditions he did on the personalized gramophone, or in the circle of acquaintances, which included several musicians.
