In her opinion, attempts to interfere in the elections can be expected.

“Contrary to what is often said, this administration has no intention of turning its back on Europe, it is even quite the opposite. In parallel with the announced reduction of military involvement, it is moving towards new political involvement. The Trump administration is willing to export its ideas, its nativist and anti-climate ideology, the basis of which was presented in (Vice President) JD Vance's speech at the Munich Security Conference,” the expert said in an interview published on Friday.

In her opinion, the current U.S. administration “also intends to interfere in the electoral processes in Europe to ensure governments that are ideologically consistent with it.” The expert believes that this is the intention to “transform the currently existing ties between partners to replace them with an ideological alliance” in which European countries would be “more like vassals expected to obey.”

This is the end of the transatlantic relationship based on the values of open societiesdefense of liberal democracy, collective security and solidarity, but also trade agreements and coordination in multilateral instances,” Varma said.

Describing the statements of representatives of the American administration, she described their vision as those who “love Europe more than Europeans love themselves”, and therefore want to “save Europe against itself, turning it from its evil path.” She emphasized that many political parties in Europe clearly join this trend.

In her opinion Hungary, ruled by Viktor Orban, plays a key role in “this ideological fight”. and there is mutual influence between the Hungarian Prime Minister and the MAGA movement.

The US administration – according to the expert – is very interested in the presidential elections in France in 2027, the results of which “may tilt the European Union towards the opposite dynamics” than the current one.

“If France, the founding state of the EU, the first diplomatic power, the only nuclear power in the European Union, tilts towards the extreme right, it could drag a certain number of countries with it,” the analyst emphasized.

In her opinion, if Orban wins the April elections in Hungary and the far right wins in France, “one can imagine in 2027 a kind of new Washington-Paris-Budapest-Moscow axis that would be completely opposed to today's European interests.”

“It would also be the end of the European integration of Moldova or Ukraine, and above all, the end of the European Union's ability to act as a solid and autonomous player in the security sphere,” Varma added.
