How to generate a certificate before February 1? We explain

From Monday to Saturday, January 31, the Certificates and Authorizations Module (MCU), in which it was possible to grant authorizations and generate certificates and tokens, is disabled. We reported about it on Business Insider. However, disabling the module surprised many taxpayers who wanted to log in to KSeF (and in practice to MCU), grant authorizations to employees and generate a certificate. It is necessary if the entrepreneur wants to send and receive invoices from KSeF using commercial software. It will be possible again be done using tools made available by the Ministry of Finance from February 1, 2026, i.e. from Sunday. The KSeF 2.0 Taxpayer Application will then be made available and it will be possible to grant permissions and generate certificates and tokens directly there.
However, there is an alternative.

How to obtain a KSeF certificate before February 1?
How we announced this morning The Ministry of Finance has released the KSeF 2.0 API, an interface through which commercial programs can connect to KSeF.
Piotr Juszczyk, chief tax advisor of InFakt, confirms that thanks to API it is now possible to properly connect an external program with KSeF. Of course, the invoices themselves will be able to be sent and received from February 1.
– However, thanks to the API being made available through external applications you can generate certificates and integrate with KSeF. I confirm that the connection works and only in the first hour we carried out over 1,000 successful integrations with KSeF – says Piotr Juszczyk.
Therefore, if an entrepreneur has access to KSeF invoicing software from a commercial supplier, he or she can generate a KSeF certificate as well as tokens before February 1.
The Ministry of Finance announced this in a statement. The ministry indicated that there is a planned technical break in the KSeF production environment from January 26 to 31 (hence the MCU shutdown). The break is necessary to complete the process of implementing the target version of the system, i.e. KSeF 2.0.
The ministry also announced that, in order to meet the expectations of entrepreneurs, it will make API KSeF 2.0 available from Wednesday, January 28, at 8:00 a.m. And so it happened. Thanks to the API it is possible verification of the operation of commercial systems in the KSeF 2.0 production environment in the scope of:
- user authentication,
- permissions (search and browse),
- submitting applications for certificates and receiving these certificates,
- generating tokens.
If an entrepreneur wants to grant rights, e.g. to his employees, it will be possible in the free KSeF 2.0 Taxpayer Application, which will be made available by the Ministry of Finance on Sunday, February 1. Before this date, you can only test the application. A version for testing and a version of the so-called production (target one, which will be made available on February 1) can be downloaded from the website: Free KSeF 2.0 tools – KSeF (National e-Invoice System).
What else can be done before February 1?
Recall that companies can also continue to submit ZAW-FA applications to tax offices. It must indicate the person authorized by the company to manage KSeF (the so-called KSeF administrator, it may be e.g. a member of the management board). Krzysztof Rogowski, director of the Department of Analyzes of the National Tax Administration, at the Ministry of Finance announced that Taxpayers have already submitted approximately PLN 480,000. ZAW-FA applications.

As Piotr Juszczyk explains, the office must then confirm (e.g. by e-mail) that the person in question has the authorization. As reported by the Ministry of Finance, responses are usually issued within one day. After receiving confirmation from the tax office, the person authorized to KSeF (administrator) will have to log in to the KSeF 2.0 Taxpayer Application (from February 1, it will include a module for certificates and authorizations) and grant permissions, e.g. to issue and receive invoices from KSeF.
Therefore, simply submitting a ZAW-FA application is not enough. After obtaining authorization for KSeF 2.0 by the tax office, you still need to grant permissions for KSeF.
– It is worth noting that people running sole proprietorships do not have to do this – reminds Piotr Juszczyk.
An alternative to the ZAW-FA application is to use an electronic seal. We explained what advantage the seal gives companies in the article: KSeF. This is what companies ask most often. Tax advisors respond.
