Minister Żurek appeals to prosecutors. It's about the “roundabout guy” case.

During Monday's conference at the Ministry of Justice, Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek addressed, among others: attention to statistics on the number of fatal road accidents. In 2024, 1,896 people died. He also referred to the case of the “rondziarz”. This was the name given to the Ford driver who intentionally caused a collision many times over the last few months, including: at roundabouts to finally extort compensation as part of the settlement. Minister Żurek appealed to prosecutors to carefully look into both this type of cases and the individual driver.

Waldemar Żurek: the most important thing is the evidence
— Perhaps it is the fact that the prosecutor should make the court aware in another such case, even a civil one, that it is extortion. The court must see that this is fraud, said Waldemar Żurek, quoted by PAP.
He also emphasized that the question in such cases is whether changes to the regulations are necessary, whether such an act can be treated as an abuse of law or an intentional collision under the existing regulations. He emphasized that in such cases, the most important evidence is evidence.

— Where we have camera records that do not get deleted, because we know that this system also resets itself from time to time, we will try to take a closer look at this matter and eliminate this exact threat, which is also an extortion. Because this is about extorting funds, so extortion is certainly a crime. So, as I carefully analyze, such a person, if he has to prove himself, can be charged with a number of different prohibited acts – emphasized the minister.
