The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, avoided giving a direct answer when he was asked – three times – if he considered that the dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu was a “patriot”, in an interview with Digi24, saying that, in his opinion, “the extremely bad part is that he did not adequately capitalize on the capacity and intelligent area of Romania”.
“Was Ceaușescu a patriot?”, was the question that journalist Florin Negruțiu addressed to Minister Radu Miruță, in the Sunday edition of the show “In front of you”.
“From my point of view, the extremely bad part is that it did not capitalize to the extent of Romania's capacity and intelligent area. Sending smart people to the channel just because they could change your share of power in the Romanian state is something that cannot lead to evolution,” replied the Minister of Defense.
Asked again if he considers that the communist dictator was a patriot, Miruță answered: “Ceaușescu, in certain areas, pursued the industrial zone to develop with Romanians on Romanian territory, but these things, as they were done by him, isolated Romania's interaction with other countries to an extraordinary extent.”
“You don't want to answer me”
The Defense Minister also avoided giving a concrete answer when he was asked for the third time whether “Ceaușescu was a patriot or not”.
“Well, I told you arguments why he was a patriot, I told you arguments why he was not related to patriotism”, said Radu Miruță.
“Clarify me, that Ceaușescu is not like Trump. Ceaușescu is dead, we can talk about Ceaușescu”, replied Florin Negruțiu.
“My belief is that Romania is doing better today,” the minister replied.
“You don't want to answer me. Okay, thanks,” concluded the journalist.
