How to restore softness to terry towels: 1 proven method without rinse aids

Over time, terry towels lose their softness, become hard and less pleasant to the body. This is due not only to wear and tear, but also to the accumulation of mineral salts from hard water, as well as detergent residues in the fabric fibers. Instead of buying specialized fabric softeners, you can use a simple and affordable product – baking soda.

For baking soda to work effectively, it should be added directly to the drum of the washing machine – 2 tablespoons per load is enough, which allows you to remove accumulated deposits and restore the structure of the fabric.

However, the method is suitable for cotton, terry and linen products, but is not recommended for delicate natural fabrics – wool and silk, which can be damaged when in contact with an alkaline environment. It is important to use baking soda and not calcined soda, which is more aggressive.

Textile care experts recommend using this method no more than once every 2-3 months to avoid excessive alkalization of the fibers and preserve the durability of the fabric.
