Kiev's critical infrastructure was severely damaged Tuesday morning following a drone and missile attack. The mayor of the capital confirmed that residents were facing interruptions in the supply of water and electricity due to the explosions, according to Reuters.
The attack on the eastern bank of the Dnipro river interrupted both electricity and water supply, announced the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko.
The official reported that a non-residential building was hit and one person was injured following the Russian attack on Tuesday morning.
Also, Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the capital's military administration, said that a storage area was damaged and several cars were set on fire.
Elsewhere in Ukraine, explosions were also reported in the Dnipro and Kharkiv regions. In the city of Zaporizhia, debris from a drone caused a fire at a home, regional governor Ivan Fedorov reported, according to The Kyiv Independent.
On January 19, Zelensky warned that Russia was planning a large-scale attack against Ukraine. “We must remain extremely vigilant in the coming days. Russia has been preparing for an attack — a massive attack — and is waiting for the right moment to carry it out,” the president said.
Ukraine is still reeling from a wave of Russian strikes earlier this month that left thousands of apartment blocks without electricity and heating, particularly in the capital Kiev. Zelenskiy has repeatedly called for strengthening air defenses, including through increased support from Ukraine's Western allies.
