During an interview with the founder of the online publication GORDON, Dmitry Gordon, Kasyanov spoke about:
- surrounded by US President Donald Trump;
- protests in Iran;
- Trump's plans for Greenland and Canada;
- differences between World War II and the current war in Ukraine;
- negotiations with the aggressor country of the Russian Federation on a “peace plan” for Ukraine;
- the demands of the illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin;
- future financing of the war in Ukraine, which will fall on the shoulders of poor Russians;
- state of the Russian economy.
“Putin's failure to help [сверженному президенту Сирии Башару] Assad, [похищенному президенту Венесуэлы Николасу] Maduro, Iran – this is a complete loss of political influence. He is weakening, but his anger and persistence in the war against Ukraine do not disappear. Therefore, he will have no desire to negotiate – he will sit down at the negotiating table only when he is forced,” Kasyanov said.
Kasyanov was born in 1957 in the Moscow region. Graduated from the Moscow Automobile and Highway Institute (specialty – civil engineer). In the 1980s he worked in the apparatus of the State Planning Committee of the RSFSR, in the early 1990s – in the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation. From 1995 to 1999, Kasyanov was Deputy Minister of Finance. In this position, he negotiated with external creditors to settle the debt of the former USSR. In 1999–2000 he served as Minister of Finance, and from 2000 to 2004 he headed the government.
In 2008, he planned to run for president of the Russian Federation, but in the end he was denied registration.
In 2010, together with politicians Boris Nemtsov and Vladimir Ryzhkov, he created a democratic coalition, which later became the People's Freedom Party (PARNAS). Since 2015, he has headed this party. In 2023, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, at the request of the Ministry of Justice, canceled the registration of PARNAS.
Now Kasyanov lives in Latvia.
