Romania, a nightmare at the European Men's Handball Championship. The Olympic and world champion filled the gate of the tricolors

After a brave half, the Romanian national men's handball team was crushed by Denmark, on Sunday evening, in Herning, in a match from Group B of the European Championship – EHF Euro 2026, hosted by Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

The tricolors managed to honorably hold up against the Danes in the first half, closing the first part of the match with a difference of only 5 goals: 17-22. After the break, the score took on proportions, with the reigning world and Olympic champions scoring when and how they wanted. A nightmare half from our players, who only scored 7 times in the second half hour, saw the Danes win 39-24.
The goals of the team coached by George Buricea were scored by Robert Nagy 4, Radu Ghita 4, Călin Dedu 4, Ionuţ Stănescu 3, Daniel Stanciuc 3, Andrei Buzle 3, Ionuţ Nistor Ioniţă 2, Tudor Botea 1. Ionuţ Iancu managed only 5 interventions (14.29%).
The goalkeeper of the hosts made the tricolors desperate
Mathias Gidsel scored 9 goals for the hosts, Mads Hoxer 8, Simon Pytlick 8, Emil Jakobsen 5, Rasmus Lauge 3, Lasse Moeller 3, Magnus Landin 1, Magnus Saugstrup 1, Lasse Bredekjaer Andersson 1, while the home goalkeeper, Kevin Moeller, blocked no fewer than 17 goals (42.50%).
In the other match of the group, North Macedonia drew with Portugal, 19-19 (13-15), so that, after the defeat in the first game of the tricolors, 34-40 against the Lusitanians, Romania no longer has any chance to go to the main groups.
Denmark leads the group with 4 points, followed by Portugal, 3 points, North Macedonia, 1 point, and Romania, 0 points. On Tuesday, the last group matches will take place, North Macedonia – Romania (19.00) and Denmark – Portugal (21.30), both in Herning.
