The Iraqi government creates a commission to prevent the recruitment of youth into the Russian army

Charge d'Affaires of Iraq in Ukraine Tarek Kazem, at a meeting with the secretary of the coordination headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war, Brigadier General Dmitry Usov, said that official Baghdad is concerned about the attraction of young Iraqis into the ranks of the Russian army. The established commission will work in coordination with the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq to resolve this problem.

The Iraqi side emphasized that in accordance with the country's Criminal Code, mercenary activity is punishable strictly, up to life imprisonment. The diplomats also confirmed the state's commitment to the policy of neutrality and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, as enshrined in the Iraqi constitution.

“We would like to remind you that the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regularly calls on third-country citizens to avoid falling into the ranks of the Russian occupation army by any means, and if sent to the front, to contact the “I Want to Live” project,” the message says.
