The Control Body of the Minister of Health will go to Buzău to analyze all aspects related to the administrative area of the County Hospital, while the College of Doctors will check the situation of the 25-year-old patient who died on January 5, announced Alexandru Rogobete in a message on Facebook.
Several people protested, on Tuesday, in the yard of the Emergency County Hospital (SJU) in Buzău, after a 25-year-old patient, hospitalized with a closed fracture of the femur, died in the hospital. The patient was scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday, January 5, but medical staff say his condition suddenly deteriorated and he died.
“For this case, I was informed in good time and I immediately notified the College of Physicians of Romania, the only institution authorized to pronounce from a medical point of view. The College of Physicians will make the necessary checks and there will be a clear answer regarding the situation of the polytraumatized patient from Buzău”, Alexandru Rogobete sent in a message on Facebook.
Before the message, he was criticized by PNL vice-president Alexandru Muraru who accused him of trying to cover up the case in order to protect the president of the CJ Buzău, Marcel Ciolacu. Both Ciolacu and Rogobete are PSD members.
“It is an unfounded and deeply incorrect statement. I have never covered up anything. On the contrary, I was the minister who told the truth and who brought to light problems hidden for years, precisely because only their recognition allows us to correct them,” replied Rogobete.
He said he would send the Ministry's Control Corps to check the administrative situation. “I also discussed with the president of the Buzău County Council, and in the next period an administrative audit will take place at the Buzău County Hospital, as well as checks by the Control Body, to analyze all aspects related to the administrative area”, he explained.
What happened in Buzau
According to the spokeswoman of SJU Buzău, Adriana Bunilă, the man who died was the victim of a road accident that took place on January 2, the patient being brought to the Emergency Department (UPU) with a closed fracture of the femur. After being evaluated in the UPU, the patient was admitted to the orthopedic department of the County Hospital to undergo surgery, benefiting from immobilization in a plaster cast and specific treatment.
“During January 5, 2026, the patient was supposed to undergo surgery, but his health suddenly deteriorated, which is why the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit, where, unfortunately, death occurred. We are currently waiting for the results of the necropsy to establish the exact causes of death,” said the spokeswoman of SJU Buzău.
She added that such cases “have been and are being treated” at the hospital and that a closed femur fracture is not “an immediate medical emergency”.
