US leaves 66 organizations. The White House explains that it protects interests

Why is this important?
The US withdrawal from so many organizations may affect global cooperation in key areas such as security, health and climate. This decision is part of the broader policy of the Trump administration, which has limited America's participation in international initiatives from the beginning of its term.
What organizations are covered by the decision?
Of the 66 organizations from which the United States is withdrawing, 31 are UN agencies and 35 are other international institutions. The list included, among others: the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the European Center of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats, the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and the Center for Science and Technology in Ukraine.
The Department of State explains the decision
“The Trump Administration has determined that these institutions are expendable, mismanaged, unnecessary, wasteful, mismanaged, hijacked by those pursuing self-interests that conflict with ours, or pose a threat to our nation's sovereignty, liberty, and general well-being,” the State Department said in an official statement.
What are the consequences of this decision?
This is another stage in limiting American involvement in international affairs. Earlier, the Trump administration withdrew the US from, among others, from the World Health Organization, UNESCO and the Paris Climate Agreement. These decisions are controversial and may have long-term consequences for global cooperation.
