The United States should deal the same fate as Nicolas Maduro and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov to convince Moscow to end the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky suggested, according to AFP.

“We have the example of Maduro, don't we? (…) Let him run the same kind of operation with Kadîrov, with this murderer,” Volodymyr Zelensky said, referring to Washington's military intervention that captured Nicolas Maduro and his wife and brought them to New York.

“Maybe Putin will see and think twice,” Zelenskiy said after putting forward the idea of the Chechen leader as the next target.

“What wouldn't this scoundrel do? He issues an arrest warrant against me, imposes sanctions on me… And here he is also asking for the help of the Americans,” Kadîrov replied on Telegram. “Keep your honor and don't humiliate yourself. If you had a bit of honor, you would understand how humiliating your words and demands are,” the Chechen leader also said in his reply to Zelenskiy.

A former separatist turned supporter of the Russian president, Ramzan Kadîrov rules Chechnya with an iron fist, a republic that is part of the Russian Federation. He welcomed the Kremlin's decision to invade Ukraine in February 2022, with repeated threats against Kiev and its allies and sending thousands of Chechen soldiers to the front.

Accused by some of being behind many of the political assassinations that have taken place in Russia in the last 20 years, Kadîrov is also accused of serious human rights violations in the republic he leads.

In recent years there have been rumors that he was ill or even dying. At the beginning of the month, one of his close aides released a clip in which he can be seen to debunk rumors after Kadyrov was hospitalized in a Moscow clinic.

Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the American operation in Venezuela since Saturday, initially suggesting that the Americans should target Vladimir Putin himself.

“About Venezuela? What can I say? If we can deal with dictators like this, then the United States knows what to do next,” Zelenski joked at a news conference.
