The water supplier Hidro Prahova announces that there is a ban on the consumption of water supplied in the centralized system in the Prahova town of Măneşti, after the analyzes carried out on water samples revealed high concentrations of arsenic. Bans on water consumption are also imposed in the Albeşti-Paleologu commune, where the analyzes showed the presence of iron and ammonium, reports News.ro.

The Hidro Prahova water company announces, on Thursday, that following the notifications received from the Prahova Public Health Directorate, a ban on the consumption of distributed water was instituted in the town of Măneşti, “as a result of exceeding the allowed values of some chemical parameters in the analyzed samples”, it being about arsenic.

“As a result of the finding of non-conformities, DSP Prahova ordered the prohibition of the consumption of water supplied by Hidro Prahova SA in the town of Măneşti, until the situation is completely remedied. The water distributed in Măneşti cannot be used for drinking or cooking. Arsenic cannot be eliminated by boiling the water”, says Hidro Prahova.

And in Albeşti-Paleologu commune from Prahova county, the analyzes carried out during the drinking water quality monitoring operations showed exceeding the indicator parameters Ammonium (NH4+) and Iron (Fe), in the distribution network, for the water supplied from the Albeşti and Cioceni sources.

“These exceedances are of a telluric nature (related to the natural composition of the soil and underground water) and do not represent the result of recent, accidental or point pollution. Possible effects: due to the Iron indicator, the water may present a reddish-brown color, without implying a risk to health. Hidro Prahova SA has ordered remedial measures and additional monitoring of water quality, in accordance with DSP Prahova's instructions,” states the water company.

According to the data published on the first day of the year on the company's website, in the Balta Doamnei commune, in the Cismea Peco area of the Lacul Turcului village, quantities of nitrites were found in the water, and the ban on the use of water for drinking, cooking, preparing milk formulas for babies and teas was established. The ban applies specifically to children up to 3 years of age, nursing women and the elderly.

“The water can be used for washing, the evacuation of faecal-household wastewater or other activities that do not involve direct contact with food”, announces Hidro Prahova, stating that in support of the affected consumers, the company will ensure the distribution of potable water for drinking and cooking by placing containers in the affected areas.
