New scanners, according to the Fly4Free website, are intended to make security checks run more smoothly, which will translate into passenger comfort. Although the installation of the equipment was supposed to start earlier, the process was delayed due to the withdrawal of one of the bidders in the tender. Only a few days ago, the National Appeals Chamber completed the proceedings, which made it possible to sign the contract.
Modern 3D scanners – what will change for passengers?
The contract signed with Dimark provides for the phased installation of 15 3D scanners for checking hand luggage. The work will start in January, and the first devices will appear in the AB zone.
As Piotr Rudzki from the PPL press office emphasized, the decision to lift the liquid limit will be made only after the installation of all devices is completed. Rudzki explained that opening only some of the new lines could lead to chaos and longer queues for security checks.

These changes are possible thanks to the decision of the European Commission, which in 2023 allowed airports equipped with certified 3D scanners to lift the limit on liquids in hand luggage. So far, passengers could only carry liquids in containers up to 100 ml in hand luggage. After the implementation of the new devices, travelers will be able to take with them even 2-liter bottles or other containers with liquids, without quantitative restrictions.
More Polish airports are preparing for changes
In Poland, the airports in Krakow and Poznań have already introduced the abolition of the liquid limit in hand luggage. Chopin Airport will be the third airport in the country to implement such a solution. It is also known that the airports in Pyrzowice and Gdańsk are preparing to purchase modern scanners.
