The national football team of the state of Mozambique defeated that of Gabon on Sunday, score 3-2, in stage 2 of group F of the Africa Cup of Nations. It is the first victory in the history of a final tournament for this national team.

The duel took place in Agadir (Morocco). A country of approximately 22 million inhabitants, the Mozambique national football team will not soon forget December 28, 2025.

The team prepared by Conde Chiquinho opened the scoring in the 37th minute, through Faisal Bangal. He scored once more in the 42nd minute, after the shot from 11 meters converted by Geny Catamo.

Gabon reduced the difference just before the break, in the last phase of the first half, after the penalty that was converted by the star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

1-3 was made in the 52nd minute, after the success of Diogo Calila, and Gabon reduced the difference again 15 minutes before the end, through Moucketou-Moussounda.

Mozambique scored once more in extra time, but the goal was canceled due to an offside. Following this result, the Mozambican national team is in 3rd place in Group F, with 3 points after 2 matches.

Cameroon and Ivory Coast lead the group with 3 points each, but have a game less played.

In the first match of the 2025 African Cup, Mozambique lost to the Ivory Coast national team, score 0-1. Gabon have no chance of qualifying, while Mozambique are still hopeful.

Mozambique will face Cameroon in the last stage, and the match will take place on December 31.
