Five of Inter's players well past the age of 30 will be packing up in the summer. The Italians write that Henrikh Mkhitaryan (36), Francesco Acerbi (37), Yann Sommer (37), Stefan de Vrij (33) and Matteo Darmian (36) will not receive an extension of their contracts due at the end of the season.

Cristi Chivu has the oldest squad in Serie A. Inter's regular starters are an average of 30.7 years old, with five of them over 30: goalkeeper Sommer, defenders Acerbi and Akanji, midfielders Mkhitaryan and Hakan Calhanoglu. The youngest is 26, Alessandro Bastoni.

It is thus understandable that the Romanian coach wants to challenge the team and give more credit to the youngsters, Pio Esposito, Bonny, Sucic, all U23, the same being the case for Luis Henrique, Bisseck or Carlos Augusto.

Mkhitaryan and De Vrij earn 3.8 million euros net annually!

With six months left until the end of the commitments, there are five Nerazzurri who have a slim chance of continuing. The Italian press reveals that Yann Sommer, Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, Matteo Darmian and Henrikh Mkhitaryan must find teams in the summer. The same will probably happen to reserve goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro (32 years old).

The only player whose deal expires on June 30, 2026 and will remain is Manuel Akanji. The Swiss stopper was loaned for 2 million euros from Manchester City, who will sell him permanently if Inter will activate the buyout clause at 15 million.

141.5million euros is the total amount of gross salaries (83 million net) paid to Inter's players in the 2025-2026 season. Captain Lautaro Martinez receives the most money (9 million net), and Di Gennaro earns the least (150,000)

Beyond the desire to rejuvenate the team, Inter is also making an important saving in the salary fund. The quoted source writes about a gross amount between 25 and 30 million euros.

Net annual wages earned by Inter's “veterans”.

  • Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 3.8 million euros;

  • Stefan de Vrij – 3.8 million euros;

  • Yann Sommer – 2.5 million euros;

  • Matteo Darmian – 2.5 million euros

  • Francesco Acerbi – 1.5 million euros.

Armenian Mkhitaryan arrived on a free transfer in July 2022 from AS Roma, as did Dutchman de Vrij from Lazio in 2018.

Inter paid 6.9 million euros to Bayern for the Swiss Sommer in 2023, when Acerbi was also transferred from Lazio for 4 millionand Darmian was bought for 3.3 million euros from Parma in 2021.
