The National Directorate of Cyber Security (DNSC) warns, on Friday, that the busy holiday period is an opportunity exploited by attackers, who take advantage and try to obtain sensitive data from people who are not paying attention.

“Have you received a message informing you that a parcel has not been delivered and asking you to access a link to 'update the address'? Through such notifications attackers try to take advantage of the usual seasonal activities, such as parcel delivery, and thus obtain personal or financial data, disguising themselves as popular courier companies and using pretexts such as “storage fees” or “incomplete address” to get the potential victim to click on the link in the message is a trap”, DNSC specialists reported on Friday, according to News.ro.

They recommend to internet users:

  • Do not access links received by unsolicited SMS or e-mail
  • Check deliveries exclusively from the courier's official website or app
  • Do not enter personal or bank details under time pressure
  • Carefully analyze the wording of the message (mistakes, unusual characters, artificial urgency)
  • Enable two-step authentication (MFA) for online accounts.

“Vigilance and verification of information from official sources remain essential for maintaining a safe and reliable digital space”, DNSC also transmitted.
