In Kansk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, a 25-year-old man is suspected of embezzling rented items, the money from the sale of which he spent on bets.
The victims were residents of Kansk and the village of Filimonovo, who posted advertisements on the Internet about renting out their property. A previously convicted unemployed attacker responded to them.

“As investigators found out, the defendant decided to start dry cleaning car interiors and for this purpose rented a washing vacuum cleaner from a woman. After a while, he sold it to a pawnshop and used the proceeds on bets, hoping to improve his financial situation. In the second case, a man rented a game console from the owners, then extended its rental, asking, with the permission of the owners, to make a payment when returning the console. However, he never returned the device: due to financial difficulties, he pawned someone else’s item, and, like the first time, spent the money he received on bets,” said the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The owners, who did not wait for the return of their property with a total value of about 230 thousand rubles, contacted the police with statements about bringing the dishonest tenant to justice. The man was detained and two criminal cases were opened against him under Part 2 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Misappropriation or embezzlement causing significant damage.” The minimum punishment for this crime is a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles, the maximum is imprisonment for up to 5 years.
