In Zelenogorsk, scammers deceived a local resident when buying fish delicacies for the New Year's table, the press service of the regional police reported.
Law enforcement officers established that the woman found a channel selling fish products in one of the instant messengers, where she was attracted by the low cost of goods. She placed an order without being convinced of the reliability of the seller or the reliability of the online resource.
“For the “New Year’s Table” set, the woman, following the link through the fast payment system, transferred 10 thousand rubles. The manager assured that delivery would be made within two days. However, the order did not arrive on time. Attempts to contact the seller did not yield any results – messages remained unanswered. The next day, the victim again contacted the channel’s representative and received a message indicating that she was ready to return the money. To do this, she was asked to follow a link sent in an SMS message. After completing these steps, the woman discovered an additional debit of another 6 thousand rubles from her account. The total amount of damage caused was 16 thousand rubles,” the police explained.
According to this fact a criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Theft”. The sanction of the article provides for punishment up to 6 years imprisonment. Currently the police tiredpour in identity of the attackers.
Law enforcement officers remind: do not transfer money to unknown sellers, especially when making purchases through instant messengers and social networks. Make purchases only at official retail outlets, check reviews, follow recommendations from friends, choose local suppliers and do not fall for advertising with suspiciously low prices.
