Attack on American soldiers. Donald Trump announces retaliation

“We mourn the loss of three Great American Patriots in Syria, two soldiers and one civilian translator. We also pray for the three wounded soldiers who, as just confirmed, are doing well. This was an ISIS attack on the United States and Syria, in a very dangerous region of Syria that is not fully under their control,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. He announced “very serious retaliation.”
Why did Donald Trump announce retaliation?

He also referred to the matter during a short conversation with journalists before departing for the American football match of the university academies of the Naval and Land Forces for the President's Cup. He emphasized that the Islamic State terrorists set a trap for US forces, and the attack was also directed against the Syrian authorities and that “Syria is fighting together with the US.” He added that the country's president, Ahmed al-Shara, was devastated by the news.
Attack on US soldiers in Syria
The Pentagon earlier said that US forces were attacked during a mission “to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations against IS in the region.” According to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the attacker was killed by U.S. partner forces.
“Let everyone know that if you target Americans – anywhere in the world – you will spend the rest of your short, fearful lives knowing that the United States will hunt you down, find you, and kill you mercilessly,” Hegseth wrote on Channel X.
American soldiers came under fire during a joint patrol with Syrian forces in the central part of the country, reported Syria's official national news agency SANA, quoted by CNN. The evacuated wounded were to be transported to Al-Tanf, a US military base in eastern Syria, near the border with Iraq.
