New US strategy. “Ambiguities” according to the deputy minister
In an interview with the Polish Press Agency, the deputy minister noted that his talks took place in the context of the newly published United States National Security Strategy. This document, as Kupiecki explained, is a development of the American approach to its role in the world, as well as the priorities and conditions for implementing international policy. He emphasized that there were no surprising elements for Poland, because the strategy had been announced earlier during numerous speeches, including at the Munich Security Conference.
Kupiecki drew attention to critical opinions towards the strategy, especially in Europe. He pointed to “ambiguities” in the US approach to European institutions, which are treated with some reserve. He added that the document does not present Russia as a direct source of threat, which may be surprising in the context of the conflict in Ukraine and violations of international law by Moscow.
At the same time, the deputy minister noted that the lack of a clear indication of Russia as a threat can be explained by the ongoing mediation talks in which the United States is involved. He explained that negotiations involving Russia and Ukraine could shed light on this decision.
With regard to Poland, Kupiecki emphasized that he heard only positive opinions in Washington. Poland is perceived as a country that effectively implements its defense obligations and develops cooperation with the US on the political, economic and military levels. The deputy minister described Poland as a “model country” from the perspective of the American vision of Europe. He added that Poland's activities in the field of expanding military and industrial capabilities are appreciated both in the USA and in Europe.

The situation in Ukraine. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs after the meeting in Washington
In the context of the war in Ukraine, Merchant noted that there is a mixture of optimism and caution in the United States. On the one hand, President Donald Trump expresses hope for a breakthrough in the negotiations before Christmas. On the other hand, talks between Russia, Ukraine and the US are ongoing, which have made some progress but are also putting pressure on President Volodymyr Zelensky over difficult decisions regarding potential territorial concessions.
Kupiecki emphasized that the situation on the front and the shape of the future peace agreement remain extremely complicated. He assessed that it is currently difficult to predict whether President Trump's optimistic forecasts are realistic or whether they are aimed only at increasing diplomatic pressure on the participants in the talks. He added also that pressure continues to be exerted on Russia in the form of sanctions and other actions, which constitutes an additional element of influence on the course of negotiations.
