On Tuesday, December 9, Gigi Becali declared exclusively for GSP that FCSB got along with Hermannstadt for the transfer of Kevin Ciubotaru (21 years old), for 450,000 euros, and that Rapid is completely out of the running. Just a day after the boss' statement, the player's agent denied that there was a written agreement with the red-blues and announced that the player's priority remains a move abroad.
Ciubotaru has made 17 appearances for Hermannstadt this season and provided a decisive assist in the 2-1 away win over Rapid. The left defender could also be a solution for the “under” rule, a chapter where the Romanian champion has difficulties.
However, the move is far from being finalized, after the player's manager, Liubliana Nedelcu, offered a surprising statement.
Ciubotaru's impresario: “The priority is a transfer abroad”
Nedelcu clarified the situation of the left defender and said that the footballer is still waiting for offers from outside the country:
“There was a discussion in October with the FCSB and I told them then that we would discuss in the winter. It is not true that no other club can get in. Kevin is open. We are also in discussions with other clubs abroad, and the priority is a transfer abroad.
I did not say that he is coming to FCSB, but only that we will discuss during the winter break”.
The impresara also spoke about the last matches in which Ciubotaru was no longer the starter:
“Kevin was a starter all the time, he was in the senior national team and in the youth team, but in the last two out of three games he didn't start from the first minute. We blamed everything on the coach's decision, but now we understand that there is pressure from Hermannstadt for the player to go to FCSB?!
I respected the coach's decision, but I don't want to think that it's about something else, about some pressure”, Liubliana Nedelcu told digisport.ro.
Kevin Ciubotaru, excellent season at Hermannstadt
Kevin Ciubotaru is quoted at 150,000 euros, according to Transfermarkt. The defender has made 17 Superliga appearances for Hermannstadt this season, also providing an assist. He was also called up by Mircea Lucescu for the matches in October and made his debut for the national team in the friendly against Moldova, in which he played 45 minutes.
