The new US strategy changes the balance of power. Türkiye is a country gaining importance
According to the Turkish daily, the United States' focus on increasing energy exports and achieving global energy dominance paves the way for Turkey to play a more significant role in key energy corridors, including the Eastern Mediterranean, Iraq and the Caucasus.
“The China-centric approach (of the U.S. strategy) places Turkey at the center of Eurasian dynamics, where the United States can view it as a key transit route and production base to push back against Chinese influence,” the text said.
Commenting on the document, Turkish diplomats also noted two other topics that may affect Ankara's role in the world and in the region: migration and military spending. “Türkiye may gain more bargaining power on the migration issue amid border security concerns,” it said.
“The call for allies to increase defense spending and bear greater burdens makes the potential of the Turkish defense industry even more valuable to Washington,” it was emphasized.
The US National Security Strategy published on Friday states, among other things, that US policy on Europe should treat, among others, as a priority: returning to strategic stability in relations with Russia, enabling Europe to take responsibility for its own defense and preventing further NATO expansion.
