Rostelecom carried out “optics” to villages in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory

Rostelecom, together with the regional Ministry of Digital Development, provided access to wired high-speed Internet for residents of several northern settlements of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

A fiber optic network (FOCL) first appeared in Sergeevo, Nizhneshadrino, Fomka, Yartsevo, Krivlyak, Nikulino, Zotino, Vorogovo, Indygino and Bor.

A significant infrastructure project was implemented this fall. Specialists laid more than 400 km of cable to provide broadband Internet to schools, first aid stations and village councils.

“Three mechanized columns with special equipment were involved in the construction of the highway: bulldozers, cable layers, and crawler excavators. Machines and materials were delivered to the construction site on cargo ships along the Yenisei and on swamp vehicles overland. Our technical infrastructure unit successfully coped with the organization of logistics and overcame harsh weather conditions,” noted Alexey Usatov, director of the Krasnoyarsk branch of Rostelecom.

In 2026, Rostelecom will begin expanding the built network using GPON technology (“optics to the home”). This way, owners of private houses will have the opportunity to connect to the Internet, intelligent video surveillance and other services.

“The advent of high-speed Internet will significantly improve the quality of life in places where winter lasts nine months a year, where there is no opportunity to promptly consult doctors of a narrow specialty, go to the cinema, or use government services. Now there is such an opportunity: online educational services, telemedicine, and electronic government services will be available to residents of the Yenisei north. I hope that in the foreseeable future the fiber-optic line will continue its thorny path even further – into the Arctic territory – and will go to Verkhneimbatsk, Surgutikha, Vereshchagino, Baklanikha, Turukhansk, Svetlogorsk and Igarka, where not only people, but also industrial enterprises need high-quality communications,” said Oleg Sheremetyev, head of the Turukhansk municipal district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

“The large-scale project for the construction of fiber-optic communication lines began in 2024 and is being implemented at the expense of the regional and federal budgets. In total, over two years, the operator laid about 600 km of cable in the north of the region. Now he is faced with the task of switching all socially significant objects and base stations from satellite to optics, which will significantly increase the speed of the Internet,” explained Nikolai Raspopin, Minister of Digital Development of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

By order of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Krasnoyarsk Territory in 2024-2025. Rostelecom for the first time provided an optical communication channel for residents of hard-to-reach northern territories: Antsiferovo, Kolmogorovo, Nazimovo, Novonazimovo, Sergeevo, Nizhneshadrino, Fomki, Yartsevo, Krivlyaka, Nikulino, Zotino, Vorogovo, Indygino and Bora. In total, more than six thousand people live in these settlements. The project was implemented within the framework of the regional state program “Development of the Information Society” and the federal project “Elimination of the Digital Divide” (UCN 2.0).
