Marco Rubio praises Poland. “She was trapped”

“Poland in particular, a country that was once trapped behind the Iron Curtain and is now among the world's 20 largest economies, will join us to take its rightful place in the G20. Poland's success proves that focusing on the future is a better solution than (focusing on) grievances. It shows how partnership with the United States and American companies can promote mutual prosperity and development,” wrote the US Secretary of State.

He then emphasized that “the contrast with South Africa, the host of this year's G20 summit, is huge.” He noted that South Africa “entered the post-Cold War era with strong institutions, excellent infrastructure and global goodwill,” but Nelson Mandela's successors “replaced reconciliation with redistributive policies that discouraged investment and forced South Africa's brightest citizens to leave.” “Racial parity has paralyzed the private sector and corruption has bankrupted the country,” wrote the US Secretary of State.

In the opinion of the head of American diplomacy, “South Africa's economy has stagnated due to burdensome regulations based on racial grievances and the country is clearly outside the group of the 20 largest industrialized economies.”

Rubio announced that the US would not send an invitation to the G20 summit to the South African authorities. “The United States supports the people of South Africa, but not its radical government led by the African National Congress (ANC), and will not tolerate its continued conduct. When South Africa recognizes that it has made the difficult decisions necessary to repair its broken system and is ready to rejoin the family of prosperous and free countries, the United States will ensure it has a seat at our table. Until then, America will move forward with the new G20,” Rubio concluded.

President Donald Trump himself recently announced that he would not invite South Africa to the G20 summit in Miami. He accused the country of being “unworthy of membership” in any organization. The American leader emphasizes that Afrikaners are victims of discrimination in South Africa, which is mostly inhabited by black people. The government in Pretoria rejects these claims.

As announced by the head of the International Policy Bureau, Marcin Przydacz, this is to be the first step in Poland's efforts to join this group.

The G20 Group is a forum bringing together 19 countries and the European Union and the African Union, which are responsible for approximately 85 percent. world GDP and over 75 percent trade and represent two thirds of the world's population. Although it does not have a permanent secretariat and does not make binding decisions, it is a key platform for talks about global economic challenges.
