The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the President of the Parliament from Chisinau, Igor Grosu, sent messages to Romanians on the National Day of Romania on Sunday. The two leaders spoke about common values, shared history and the ever-closer ties between the two countries. “However, these values are under threat now more than ever,” Maia Sandu said.

President Maia Sandu recalled, in a message published on Facebook, the significance of December 1, 1918 and the importance of defending the values on which modern Romania was built.

“Today we celebrate the historic moment of December 1, 1918 – a moment that opened the road to peace, freedom and democracy for the Romanian people more than a century ago. However, these values are under threat now more than ever.

In this complicated context, our duty is to honor the efforts and sacrifices of those who made the historic decision at Alba Iulia possible. Let's defend their heritage, so that we, in turn, leave our children and grandchildren a Romanian space where they can live freely, with dignity and with respect for national values”, Maia Sandu said.

His message ends with the greeting: “Happy birthday, Romania! Happy birthday to all Romanians!”

Igor Grosu: “It is our common celebration”

For his part, Igor Grosu, PAS leader and president of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, sent a video message: “Congratulations to Romanians everywhere on the occasion of the National Day of Romania!”, he said, emphasizing the proximity between the two banks of the Prut.

“It is our common celebration, an opportunity to remember the history and culture that unites us, keeps us together and protects us. Moldovans love Romania, look towards it with respect, gratitude and gratitude. We are blessed to have a brother, just across the Prut, who helps and guides us whenever we need it.”

Grosu urged the continuation of joint projects and the strengthening of ties between the two states: “Let's continue to build bridges, schools, kindergartens, bridges. Let's preserve our history and common values. Happy Birthday, Romania!”
