On Monday, the Americans destroyed their most expensive drone, worth as much as $30 million, to prevent it from being taken over by North Korea or China, the Defense Blog reported on Thursday.

For several days, the United States Army did not correct the information provided by the media that the drone malfunctioned and fell into the sea. In fact, the MQ-9's communications system failed and despite numerous attempts to reset it and dump fuel, control of the machine could not be restored.

The US Air Force personnel operating the drone then decided to shoot it down to avoid the risk of an uncontrolled disaster, but above all to prevent the advanced equipment from being taken over by countries neighboring South Korea.

Since Monday, the United States Air Force has been combing the waters of the Yellow Sea in search of the remains of the downed plane.

The MQ-9 Reaper drone squadron is stationed in South Korea at the 431st Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron base. There are over 28,000 locations throughout this Asian country. American soldiers. (PAP)
