Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee stated that there was a mass shooting during a child's birthday party. Officials have not yet confirmed how many people were shot or what caused the tragedy. Local station KCRA reported that they were at least four dead and 10 injured.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said some of the injured were taken to the hospital. Heather Brent, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, said children were among those shot.
— Tonight my heart is heavy in a way that is hard to describe in words. As Stockton's vice mayor – and as someone who grew up in this community – I am devastated and angry to learn of the mass shooting at a child's birthday party Lee said.
The incident site is located near several businesses. It is not known how serious the victims' injuries are. The investigation is still ongoing and the area remains secured by police.
California Governor Gavin Newsom was notified about the tragedy. According to KCRA, the Governor's Office of Emergencies is monitoring developments and coordinating with local law enforcement.
