Armed attack near the White House. Two members of the National Guard were shot

Two people in military uniform were shot Tuesday night in downtown Washington, just blocks from the White House, according to sources familiar with the situation. The incident triggered a large mobilization of the police and the area was quickly blocked.

UPDATE: The White House went into lockdown following the armed attack. According to American media, President Donald Trump was at his golf course in West Palm Beach at the time of the incident, but was immediately informed of the situation, a White House spokesman said, notes The Sun.
The Metropolitan Police in Washington DC announced on platform X that the area has been secured and a suspect has been taken into custody. Authorities have advised the population to avoid the perimeter until investigations are completed.

The two victims, who “they appear to be members of the National Guard“, were shot and wounded near the intersection of 17th and I streets, the sources said. Their identities have not been released at this time, and the exact circumstances of the attack remain unclear, ABC reports.
The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed they are on the scene, where law enforcement is trying to establish what happened and secure the area.
“Please avoid the area while MPD and our partners work to secure the scene“, the MPD sent in a message published on the X platform, urging the population not to approach the scene of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released details about a possible suspect or a motive for the attack.
