New fraud attempts in Romania. How it works

The National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) warns of new fraud attempts in Romania, in which criminals use the visual identity of institutions such as Interpol, Europol, the Romanian Police, ANAF or even DNSC to create the appearance of credibility.

According to the institution, victims are often intimidated by serious accusations, such as child pornography, pedophilia, exhibitionism or cyberpornography, and are pressured to respond within 48 hours. This tactic is designed to create panic and reduce the analytical ability of users, making it easier to obtain sensitive data through a simple reply to the original email.
“Beware of messages, links and documents received from unknown or suspicious sources! Always check the real address of the sender and avoid accessing suspicious links or attachments. In these cases, mark the messages as SPAM”, DNSC specialists recommend.
The institution specifies that, if users have already interacted and provided personal, authentication or financial data, they must immediately contact the bank to block the card, the Police to open an investigation and DNSC (via number 1911 or on pnrisc.dnsc.ro) to inform other users about the type of attack.
DNSC points out that criminals also resort to false calls in the name of institutions or authorities, and entrepreneurs and companies are increasingly the targets of telephone fraud attempts, being contacted by people who claim to represent official authorities.
