Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi (27) has been named the best African footballer of the year 2025 at an awards ceremony organized by the Confederation of African Football.
The Moroccan received the accolade following last season's Champions League final success with PSG.
Achraf Hakimi, named the African footballer of the year
Achraf Hakimi beat Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen to be named African Footballer of the Year 2025.
“It is an honor for me to win this prestigious trophy. This award is not just for me, it is for all Africans who have dreams,” said Hakimi after receiving the trophy.
Hakimi had a dream season with PSG, winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Ligue 1, French Cup and French Super Cup.
Thus, the Moroccan surpassed Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen. The Egyptian came off the back of an excellent season for Liverpool, which saw them win the Premier League, scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists in 38 league appearances.
The “Cormorants” were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Champions League by PSG themselves, after 1-1 on aggregate and 1-4 in penalty kicks.
On the other hand, Victor Osimhen was Turkey's top scorer with 26 goals scored for Galatasaray, who won the championship in the previous season.
Hakimi came to Europe at Real Madrid but only made 9 La Liga appearances for 'Los Blancos' in the 2017-2018 season. Then, the Moroccan spent two seasons at Borussia Dortmund, on loan.
In 2020, Hakimi arrived at Inter after the Italians paid 43 million euros, making a profit of 25 million just a season later, when the Moroccan was transferred by PSG, the team he is in his fifth season with.
