From coffee shops to billions. Sebastian Kulczyk's way to the top


Sebastian Kulczyk is a figure who plays a key role in Polish business and investments. His activities have an impact not only on the national economy, but also on the development of innovative technologies in Poland. As the leader of Kulczyk Investments and the creator of the VC fund and startup accelerator InCredibles, Kulczyk supports young entrepreneurs and promotes modern solutions that can change the world.

Sebastian Kulczyk took his first steps in business at the age of 19, when he paid PLN 100,000. PLN from his father, he tried to create a network of e24.pl internet cafes. The project was not a success, but this did not discourage the young entrepreneur. He soon founded the marketing agency GoldenSubmarine, which is still active today. He also gained experience in prestigious companies such as Lazard investment bank and Sony BMG.
In December 2013, Sebastian Kulczyk took over as president of Kulczyk Investments, taking over the reins of the family empire a year and a half before his father's death.
After the death of Jan Kulczyk on July 29, 2015, Sebastian and his sister Dominika became the richest Poles. In 2016, Forbes estimated their fortune at PLN 15.9 billion. The following year they maintained their position, but their assets decreased to PLN 14.27 billion. In 2018, the siblings for the last time topped the list of the richest Poles. Their wealth then amounted to PLN 13.9 billion.
From his father's shadow to his own legend. What is Sebastian Kulczyk investing in today?
In 2018, the siblings decided to divide their assets – Sebastian took over the assets of Kulczyk Investments, and Dominika received the equivalent in cash. The heir to the family fortune did not intend to use the funds and has been very active in business for years. At the same time, he relies on his own decisions and undertakings.
As Forbes reminds, his son consistently got rid of most of Jan Kulczyk's legacy to pursue his own vision of running a business.

Sebastian Kulczyk, among others he founded a venture capital fund and a startup accelerator called InCredibles, supporting young entrepreneurs. It was on his initiative that Singularity University came to Poland – a prestigious educational institution promoting innovation. One of his most famous investments was participation in the Hyperloop One project, which is expected to revolutionize transport. Richard Branson was also involved in this project.
The billionaire inherited from his father, among others: a controlling stake in the chemical Ciech, which Sebastian Kulczyk called “the pearl in the crown”. As “Puls Biznesu” reminds, last year the group changed its name to Qemetica. And at the same time, it purchased selected assets of the American concern PPG Industries for over PLN 1 billion. Kulczyk also invests in companies, including: Polish technology brands, such as booking Booksy and educational Brainly.

Sebastian Kulczyk invests in various sectors through his company Kulczyk Investments. His key investments include traditional businesses (such as shares in Ciech or formerly Kompania Piwowarska) and modern technologies, e.g. through the Manta Ray VC fund. Recent investments also focus on the real estate market (e.g. the Noho One complex in Warsaw) and on the development of warehouse infrastructure through the Quatrihub fund.
Thanks to the support of the billionaire, the warehouse developer plans to launch the first project worth EUR 30 million. It is to be the construction of three facilities: the first of them is a hall with an area of 27,000 m2. m2 near Wrocław. In addition to investments, he is socially active, supporting entrepreneurship through the InCredibles program and the Pho3nix Foundation.
