Dan Trifu announced his intention to run as early as May, with the presidential elections that would bring Nicușor Dan to Cotroceni.
In his program for the Capital, Dan Trifu talks, among other things, about the rehabilitation of green spaces and the development of new spaces, as well as solving the problem of retroceded green spaces, tougher sanctions for illegal cutting, the redevelopment of Dâmboviţa and the establishment of a type of protected area for the Băneasa Forest.
Among his proposals are the careful monitoring of construction sites in order to reduce dust in the atmosphere, measures for the healthcare system in Bucharest, as well as the situation of buildings with seismic risk and promises the continuation of the rehabilitation of the hot water and heat transport network, proposing the annual rehabilitation of at least 100 km of the main network and 100 km of the secondary network and the completion and approval of the new General Urbanistic Plan.
Connections with the political world
He also ran for the parliamentary elections of 2024, for a position of senator, from the REPER party. However, the party did not cross the threshold of the Parliament.
The context and motivations of his candidacy are explained by him himself in an RFI interview. “I decided to run, because together with Nicușor, you know well, we did great things and through the court, we fought, I really fought for so many years for Bucharest and I tell you honestly, I don't want Bucharest to fall into the hands of party interests or group interests. This is the goal, because I have dedicated almost 30 years of my life to the defense of citizens' rights, please, to the defense of a somewhat civilized Capital. (…) We would replace a Nicușor Dan with a Dan Trifu who has the same principles, the same goals, and I really want to speed up certain things”.
Training and experience
Dan Trifu is the president of the Eco-Civica organization since 2024. He is 66 years old and tells in his biography that he did not enter college at first, having a childhood marked by the hardships of poverty in Teleorman county:
“I did my military training, I entered Automatics, then I transferred to Electronics. I graduated in Electronics and Telecommunications, with an engineering degree in microelectronics. All my studies were in the evening, because I worked during the day – first at the Railways, then at the subway. After graduation, I worked at the Electronics company, and in 1993 I opened my own company.”
In fact, he has been active since 1998 within the Eco-Civic Foundation, an NGO dedicated to protecting the environment, historical heritage and human rights, fighting against urban and architectural abuses. In 2002, he became vice president of the organization.
Dan Trifu is known in the public space for his civic role, but he is not one of the candidates measured in the polls for the Capital City Hall. His candidacy also comes as a legacy of the old administration, which also promises the continuation of the former mayor's projects.
