The 2-year-old girl who died after an anesthesia had been sedated before. The clinic claims it had the necessary permits

The representatives of the dental clinic where a 2-year-old girl died following a sedation procedure, reported on Saturday that the medical unit was functioning “based on the necessary authorizations and approvals”, issued by the competent institutions. Crystal Dental Clinic says it has fully cooperated with the authorities and deeply regrets the tragedy. The representatives point out that all the deep sedation activities carried out in recent years “they were carried out within a unit that operated on the basis of the necessary authorizations and approvals”.
“Following the information that appeared in the public space during the day on Friday, we would like to formulate a few clarifications, with all responsibility and with full respect for the tragedy that we are going through together with the grieving family. We are deeply marked by what happened and we fully cooperate with the authorities for the complete clarification of the situation. For the correct information of the public, we mention that the deep sedation activities, carried out by the clinic in recent years, were carried out within a unit which operated on the basis of the necessary authorizations and approvals, issued by the competent institutions”, they send on Saturday, November 15, according to News.ro.
In addition, the medical facility announces that it is in the process of expansion, investing in new spaces and modern sedation equipment. For these, the approval procedures “are ongoing”, and the steps “were known and monitored by the competent institutions”.
“These actions were known and monitored by the competent institutions, in accordance with the applicable legislation. We regret the fact that incomplete or distorted information has circulated in the public space, which can create confusion in an emotionally charged moment. We believe that any assessment must be made exclusively on the basis of official documents, not through speculation or unverified statements.” say the representatives of the clinic.
The girl had been sedated before at the same clinic
Crystal Dent representatives claimed that the girl also underwent a deep sedation procedure on January 27, 2025, at the same clinic and performed by the same medical team, anesthetist and dentist. The procedure then ended “without complications and with a full recovery.”
“In the past 11+ years of operation, our clinic has successfully performed more than 1,700 similar deep sedation procedures with the same dedicated and qualified team, without any previous incident, always putting the safety and comfort of our patients first, especially the little ones“, the representatives of the clinic stated in a statement.
Crystal Dental Clinic promotes deep sedation on its website as a “safe and effective option for patients with complex dental treatments or those suffering from severe dental anxiety.” The clinic claims that the deep sedation specialist was present at all times, and the drug was administered under strict medical supervision. The website also stated that the procedure would also be considered suitable for patients with chronic diseases, and risks such as allergic reactions or respiratory problems were described as rare and monitorable. The 2-year-old girl who died may have had chronic diseases.
The clinic has over 20 years of activity
Crystal Dental Clinic states that it has “an activity of over two decades” and a team of over 100 professionals. The facility's management says it remains committed to “transparency, institutional cooperation” and supporting all procedures necessary to fully clarify the case.
“We remain committed to transparency, institutional cooperation and supporting all procedures necessary to fully clarify the facts. We are with the family during this extremely difficult time and avoid any statement that could accentuate the pain or influence the ongoing investigation.” the clinic still transmits.
The statements from Crystal Dental Clinic come after, on Friday, the Minister of Health Alexandru Rogobete sent the preliminary conclusions of the control team sent to the scene.
“Authorizations were not issued properly”, stated the minister, adding that the verified unit “it doesn't work properly, it works improvised and it doesn't respect norms”.
