Freshly validated by the first league clubs, who voted almost unanimously that the president of the LPF can benefit from an unlimited number of mandates, Gino Iorgulescu addressed, on Thursday afternoon, in one of his rare public appearances, the discussions related to the match of the national team in Bosnia.

Iorgulescu, who also holds the position of vice-president of the Romanian Football Federation, says that “I see a game where a major mobilization is needed! It depends on Lucescu how he mobilizes them and which team he puts on the field. They have to choose the best formula and we don't lose, that's all I want.
We can win, draw, but not lose,” said Iorgulescu, then asked if a failure to qualify would “taint” the current coach's final career.
Iorgulescu believes that any comparison between the current national team and the one that “Il Luce” was preparing in the 80s is unfair:
“There's no way, what results and what a career Mircea Lucescu had… If you have players, you can assemble them, if you're a coach like Lucescu. But let's not take any chances, we don't have players who are at the same level as those from other countries. I no longer say let's compare with England, Italy, France…”, pointed out Iorgulescu, who then explained that he will not be present during the trip from Bosnia:
“No, because now I'm staying with the representatives of the clubs. They're leaving tomorrow (no Friday, refers to the FRF delegation), they come back after the match, and I have no way…”.

Gino Iorgulescu, who turned 69 on May 15, has been at the head of the Professional League since November 2013. In 2022, the former Student Sports footballer, paid for his job with 33,000 euros per month, won the third consecutive term at the head of the LPF. According to the new regulations voted in the General Assembly on Thursday, he will be able to run for a fourth term in 2027.
