Media students from 40 Russian universities gathered at the media forum at Siberian Federal University

This is the second time that Siberian Federal University has hosted a forum of young media professionals who come to the university to learn media competencies, make new acquaintances, and create a common thematic project.

The “Heart of Russia” media forum is an educational project of Siberian Federal University and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia. Its task is to support student and youth media in Russia, develop journalism to form a community of young people who share the traditional values of the state.

Forum participants will enjoy various lectures on media communications and working with the most effective applications and tools for creating content, master classes on photo reporting, team work on projects under the guidance of experienced mentors, and defense of their developments.

On November 13, the forum was opened by Evgenia Turtapkina, vice-rector for information policy at Siberian Federal University:

“Today, media is not just a tool for transmitting information, but a space where an agenda is born, values are formed and meanings are created. In the modern world, media competencies are becoming a universal language, which is necessary not only for journalists, but also for everyone who wants to be heard and influence the minds and hearts of people. Student blogs, social networks and university communication channels are all bridges between knowledge and society, between science and reality.”

According to Evgenia Turtapkina, for the first time, to the traditional educational block and cultural program of the forum, the organizers added immersion in the field of volunteering, so that active participation and new competencies would help the participants create a unique media product at the end of the meeting.

According to the decree of President Vladimir Putin, 2025 has been declared the Year of Defender of the Fatherland, which is why the main theme of the forum is “The Year of Defender of the Fatherland.” The forum is a communication platform designed to consolidate student media communities from all over Russia into creative teams that are ready to promote spiritual and moral guidelines using effective methods of communication.

“I really love the Siberian Federal University, I am proud of our university and I want every forum participant to be imbued with the mood of the Siberian Federal University. We will discuss modern competencies and the opportunities that universities give young people, so that today you can realize your ambitions and become those people who change the reality around for the better,” Ekaterina Sidorenko, SFU Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, welcomed the forum participants.

The forum unites student media communities of universities throughout Russia into creative teams that are ready to further promote spiritual and moral guidelines using effective methods of communication.

“Many thanks to the Siberian Federal University for the always warm welcome; it feels like both students and guests are welcome here, and we are always happy to host events of this scale. The Heart of Russia Forum opens up many opportunities for you. I would like to wish you to live the forum both as a participant and as a medical expert who covers this event, to try your hand at teamwork,” Anastasia Zhabina, editor of the student media aggregator NOS, addressed the participants.

The forum will end on November 15, when participants will present the results of their common work in the form of a media project.
