A Russian Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet crashed during a training flight in the northwestern region of Karelia in an incident in which the two crew members died, Moscow's Defense Ministry said on Thursday, according to Russian news agencies quoted by Reuters.
The governor of the Karelia region, Artur Parfenchikov, said in a message published on the Telegram messaging app that the plane crashed in a forest. There were no casualties on the ground.
Parfenchikov stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
