According to the minister, the Gigabit Infrastructure Act came into force on Wednesday and provides for the gradual elimination of additional costs for phone calls made from one EU state to another.

“For millions of Romanians who form the largest diaspora in the European Union, calls to the country will soon be at the same cost as local calls, with no minute limit.

Today the Gigabit Infrastructure Act entered into force, which provides for the gradual elimination, until 2029, of additional costs for phone calls made from one EU state to another. Thus, Romanians abroad will talk to their loved ones in the country at the cost of a local call“, transmits Oana Țoiu on Facebook.

Last but not least, she conveyed that Alin Mituța, former MEP and rapporteur of the law that will eliminate additional costs for international calls in the EU, had an important role in obtaining this concrete result for Romanians.

“You may have heard about this for the first time a while ago, from Alin Mituța, who was rapporteur on this file during his mandate as a member of the European Parliament. He can always answer not only the question “What does the EU do for us?”, but also the question “What did you do there in Brussels for the Romanians?”.

The best tool to combat the anti-EU narrative is concrete results.

I am grateful that Alin has chosen to return home, to Romania, in the role of chief of staff in the MFA, to contribute to the protection of this extraordinary political project, the EU, and to increase the assertiveness of Romania's agenda in the EU“, adds Țoiu.
